Why I will be contributing to Zillow’s new mortgage blog, and why you should too.

by Todd Carpenter on September 10, 2008

why-i-will-be-contributing-to-zillows-new-mortgage-blog-and-why-you-should-too

When David Gibbons asked me to contribute to Mortgages Unzipped, I tried to squirm out of it. I don’t originate mortgages, lenderama hardly needs the link love, and my resume in the mortgage 2.0 world is already looking pretty good. There’s no upside for me to write for ANY retail mortgage blog.

But, I am Zillow’s biggest fan. Since day one, I’ve hardy ever had anything but great things to say about them. I realize that the Zestimate can be triped up. That they are almost as much competitors to real estate and mortgage professionals as they are partners. That the Mortgage Marketplace is far from the perfect solution.

But what solution is?

From day one, Zillow has looked for ways to open discussions about real estate and mortgages. They OWN transparency in our industry. More importantly they keep working to get better. The way every online marketer approaches real estate and mortgages is under pressure from what Zillow does. Am I saying they have the perfect solution? No. But they are the single greatest agent for change in our industry, and I’m rooting for them big time.

Some time after REBlogWorld is over, I’ll be contributing to Mortgages Unzipped. Fellow lenderama contributor, Mike Mueller is already there. As are several of the industries most forward thinking loan originators.

Maybe you should be contributing.

There’s no doubt that contributing to Mortgages Unzipped is going to drive some serious attention to you. In some respects, it’s a way to market yourself on Zillow without quoting a single interest rate. More importantly, success for this blog means a stronger Zillow Mortgage Marketplace. And in my opinion, that’s good for the whole industry.

My quick thoughts on the FNMA FHLMC takeover today

by Todd Carpenter on September 8, 2008

my-quick-thoughts-on-the-fnma-fhlmc-takeover-today

I’ve had a dozen distractions today (Sunday). Football is on, Colorado’s weather is perfect and I was working on my presentation for REBlogWorld. But throughout the day I tried to get my arms around the Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac takeover.

You know, there’s a lot of speculation about what will happen and not much fact. The more I read about it, the less it interests me. The government was never going to let these institutions fail. They had already pledged the money to back them. Whatever changes are made will have less effect on the lives of loan originators than with their day to day dealings with closing wholesale shops and ever changing program guidlines. I really don’t think it matters that much.

Angela Arsenault-Brown joins lenderama

by Todd Carpenter on September 4, 2008

angela-arsenault-brown-joins-lenderama

I’m not sure why, but Mortgage Processors don’t seem to be all that interested in writing for a blog. It’s really to bad because they’re often the smartest people in an entire brokerage.

Angela thinks that it might be because good numbers people tend not to be good words people. I agree, which is why good mortgage bloggers are harder to come by than good real estate bloggers. In any case, I’ve been looking for the perspective of a processor to add to the lenderama fold for over a year now.

Angela Arsenault-Brown joined lenderama’s LinkedIn networking group just last week. Like everyone who joins, I tried to get to know a little about her by checking out her LinkedIn profile. Angela doesn’t have her own mortgage blog, but she does write for a local journal, and boy does she write.

A processor that writes!

I immediatly invited her to come aboard, and today she agreed! I’m truly looking forward to her sharing her opinions and experiences from what I view to be the most important role in all of lending. Welcome Angela!
